Musicology
Musicology is the study of music. It includes the history of music of Western culture. It consists of many cultures such as musical forms, genres, styles and traditions. Musicology is containing many fields such as music history, cultural studies, gender studies, semiotics, ethnology, cultural anthropology, archeology, psychology, sociology, physiology, acoustics, neuroscience and many more. Historical musicology is one of the largest sub disciplines. It has two categories such as historical musicology, ethnomusicology and systematic musicology. Systematic musicology contains music acoustics, the technology of acoustical musical instruments and cognitive musicology includes the modeling of music. Historical musicology is the study about the performance, composition, reception and criticism of music. Ethnomusicology is also known as the comparative musicology. It is the study about the music and cultural. Popular music studies are also known as popular musicology. Music theory is the most associated with the musicology. Generally, the musical behaviors are perception, motivation, cognition and personality.
